![]() ![]() Here are the original settings for the trim pots. The compression took away from some of the effect of the pedal, and I did not like how "pinched" the tone sounded with a TS9 before the AF-9 (AF-9>TS9 sounds much better).Īny other advice? I might just try to get used to it at the end of my effect chain, but I never liked wah after overdrive. ![]() I tried running the AF-9 at the end of my effect chain, ie after a Ross comp or TS9>Ross comp. A compressor before the pedal also helped somewhat, but took away from the funkiness of the pedal (the effect was milder). The boost helps slightly, but then the output is a bit higher than I like (it pushes my Ross compressor to distort). I've tried a boost and compressor before the pedal. I might try higher output pickups, however. I have the sensitivity the whole way up with PAF humbuckers (Duncan 59's). Nearly all my pedals are old Ibanez made by Maxon - love the company, so it would be nice to get a response. They haven't responded despite their own website saying to contact them if you have questions about trim pots!! Any advice on getting Maxon to respond? I figured posting here might help in case they have a rep who keeps an eye out for Maxon threads. I also contacted Maxon / Godlyke twice (once the last time I had an AF-9 and once several days ago). Please explain these better if you can because this is the only info I can find: I also can't find much info on the trim pots, I wish I had taken notes in the past when I messed with them. I always feel like at first, it helps dial in the tone, then I feel lost and I go back to the original settings (or as close as I can get). I've done that in the past when I've had an AF-9 that was old and someone already clearly messed with the trim pots. I hate to mess with the internal trim pots. I know these settings are going to make it tougher to have good sustain, but that's the tone I like. I'm going for a Garcia sound, so I have the drive set to up, using LP and the range set to low. Consequently, I was wondering how to keep the decay a bit brighter (keep the envelope from closing / clamping down so much that the sustain dies off)? ![]() Correct me if I'm wrong, but what I think happens is that the envelope closes too much on the decay so the tone gets too dark, killing the sustain. I always love the sound, but find it difficult to get the exact right response. I've owned a few Ibanez / Maxon AF-9 pedals. ![]()
